What is Maine's Law on Felonies & Misdemeanors
Maine classifies crimes by categories of seriousness A through E, with A being the most serious and E the least (17-A MRS §1604). According to the Maine Attorney General's website on the Criminal Justice System, "Crimes were traditionally classified as felonies (serious crimes punishable by more than one year in prison) and misdemeanors (less serious crimes punishable by one year or less in jail). Maine no longer uses these categories..."
