SPECIAL SENTIMENT CALENDAR

 

           In accordance with House Rule 519 and Joint Rule 213, the following item:

 

In Memory of:

 

           (5-1)  Gaylen F. Flewelling, of Easton.  Mr. Flewelling was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves, earning the rank of first lieutenant.  He was a lifelong farmer growing potatoes for the Bushwick Commission of Long Island, New York, McCain Foods and various chip companies.  He was recognized as a top grower on several occasions and in 1985 as McCain Foods Eastern Grand Champion Potato Grower.  He served on the Easton School Board for more than 32 years, including 23 years as chairman.  He represented the Maine potato industry as a director of the National Potato Council, working on the environmental affairs and long-range planning committees.  He served on the Maine Potato Board and the Agriculture Bargaining Council, both of which he served terms as president.  He also served as a longtime director and was a past president of the Northern Maine Fair Association.  Mr. Flewelling will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of  56 years, Joan, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;
