           WHEREAS, there are more than 700,000 licensed amateur radio operators in the United States and approximately 3 million worldwide; and

 

           WHEREAS, more than 4,500 Maine citizens hold amateur radio operators licenses; and

 

           WHEREAS, Maine amateur radio operators provide communications locally and statewide in times of emergency; and

 

           WHEREAS, Maine amateur radio operators provide these services at no cost to local and county governments, State Government and nonprofit organizations; now, therefore, be it

 

           RESOLVED: That We, the Members of the One Hundred and Twenty-ninth Legislature now assembled in the First Regular Session, on behalf of the people we represent, take this opportunity to recognize these dedicated individuals and their valued contributions and to declare April 14, 2019 as Maine Amateur Radio Operators Day.

           (5-46)  the Honorable Roy Farmer, of Wiscasset, who gave a lifetime of service to the residents of Wiscasset, Lincoln County and the State.  Mr. Farmer joined the United States Army in 1945 and served his tour of duty in Germany at the end of World War II in the constabulary forces.  He served as selectman for the Town of Wiscasset, served on the town's budget committee, was elected and served in Maine's 98th House of Representatives, served as a trustee of the Wiscasset School District for 25 years, was elected and served 28 years as Lincoln County Register of Probate, was elected and served 2 years as Lincoln County Treasurer, served 30 years as bail commissioner for Lincoln County, was past president of the Lincoln County Board of Trustees, was past president of the Lincoln County Board of Realtors, was past president of the Wiscasset Alumni Association, was a founder and served as vice president of the Wiscasset Industrial Development Corporation, was a corporator for the Bath Savings Institution and the Wiscasset Public Library and served as member of other professional, fraternal and local organizations.  He received the 2001 Business Man of the Year Award from the National Republican Congressional Committee's Business Advisory Council.  In 2012, he received the Barnes and Smith Lifetime Achievement Award from the Wiscasset Chamber of Commerce and was awarded the Town of Wiscasset Business Recognition Award, and the 2012 Wiscasset Town Report was dedicated to him.  Mr. Farmer will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;
