Representative Walter Riseman

Rep. Riseman is serving his third term in the Maine House of Representatives. He serves on the State & Local Government Committee and Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee.
Over his career, Riseman was a senior accountant for Hannaford Brothers and the owner of the Village Tie Up. He then went to work for the non-profit Community Concepts which serves low-income families in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties with Head Start education, family counseling, home ownership and other economic development services. Riseman began his time as a Small Business Development Specialist for Community Concepts and rose through the organization to become Chief Financial Officer. Riseman is also a strong advocate for small start-ups and expanding businesses and has been as a member of SCORE which assists vibrant small business communities through mentoring and education.
Riseman has also served on the Harrison Budget Committee and has been elected as the Harrison Town Moderator. He has also served on various community boards including the Oxford Hills Growth Council, Tri County Mental Health and the Community Action Finance Directors Association.
Riseman lives in Harrison with his wife Jane, together they have eight children and seven grandchildren. When not in the State House, you’ll most likely find Walter rooting in the stands of his son’s hockey team.

Matters That Are Handled By The Committee: Alcoholic beverage laws; adult-use marijuana regulation; lottery; for profit and nonprofit gambling, including games of chance, beano and raffles; slot machines, gaming devices; harness racing and off-track betting; election laws; campaign practices; campaign financing and disclosures; the Maine Clean Election Act; voter registration; direct initiatives and people’s veto; legislative ethics; lobbyist registration and reporting; Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices; veterans’ programs; Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management Services (except the Maine Emergency Management Agency); Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations; Gambling Control Board; and Maine National Guard.
