Representative Stanley Paige Zeigler, Jr.
  Representing: Belmont, Liberty, Lincolnville, Montville, Morrill, Palermo and Searsmont
District #96

Rep. Stanley Paige Zeigler is serving his third term in the Maine House of Representatives. Now retired, he spent 35 years as a U.S. Merchant Marine officer. He has also worked as a teacher, logger and as a night counselor at a drug rehab center.

An active volunteer in the community, Rep. Zeigler serves as vice chair of the board of the local recycling center and previously served as Vice Chair of the RSU 3 school board.

Rep. Zeigler holds degrees from Dickinson College and Southern Maine Community College. He attended graduate school at Maine Maritime Academy. He lives in Montville with his wife, Bernice, and has a grown daughter, Deirdre.

Rep. Zeigler is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Environment and Natural Resources and a memeber of the Joint Standing Committee on Energy Utilities and Technology.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Air and water quality; natural resource protection; site location of development laws, shoreland zoning, subdivisions and growth management; management and disposal of solid, hazardous, biomedical and special wastes; hydropower and dams; waste-to-energy facilities; mining; general environmental policy, including oversight of the Department of Environmental Protection; and returnable containers.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Energy policy, including energy resources, efficiency and conservation; insulation; electric industry, including supply, transmission and distribution; natural gas industry; telecommunications industry, including mobile, telephone, Internet, broadband and cable television services; E-9-1-1; water and sewer utilities, including district charters; Public Utilities Commission; Office of the Public Advocate; Governor’s Office of Independence and Security; and Efficiency Maine Trust.
