Rep. Morgan Rielly is serving his first term in the Maine House. He is a member of the Legislature’s Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee. 

Rielly grew up in Westbrook and is a graduate of Westbrook High School. While in high school, he served two years on the Westbrook City Council.

In 2014 Rielly published his first book, which featured interviews with Maine veterans of World War II. His second book, which profiles more than 20 Maine immigrants, will be published in 2021. 

In Augusta, Rielly is focused on supporting Maine’s veterans, expanding service opportunities for young Mainers, addressing the economic fallout of the Covid-19 Pandemic and working with other legislators to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis. 

Rielly is a graduate of Bowdoin College, where he double-majored in Religion and Government. At Bowdoin, he received a fellowship to work for a non-governmental organization assisting Syrian and Iraqi refugees in Amman, Jordan.

Rep. Rielly is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs and Standing Committee of the House Engrossed Bills.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Alcoholic beverage laws; adult-use marijuana regulation; lottery; for profit and nonprofit gambling, including games of chance, beano and raffles; slot machines, gaming devices; harness racing and off-track betting; election laws; campaign practices; campaign financing and disclosures; the Maine Clean Election Act; voter registration; direct initiatives and people’s veto; legislative ethics; lobbyist registration and reporting; Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices; veterans’ programs; Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management Services (except the Maine Emergency Management Agency); Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations; Gambling Control Board; and Maine National Guard.
