Rep. Colleen Madigan is serving her fourth term in the Maine House of Representatives, where she is a member of the Health and Human Services Committee. She has also previously served one term in the Maine Senate.

Rep. Madigan has worked in the behavioral health field for over 25 years. After graduating from William Paterson College with a bachelor's degree in sociology, she worked with adults with mental health challenges before spending a year in Eastern Europe providing supportive counseling services to international students. Upon returning to the United States, she earned her master’s degree in social work from Boston College.

Rep. Madigan has worked in schools, hospitals and various human services organizations as a clinical social worker. She lives in Waterville with her husband and family, and is an avid knitter.

Rep. Madigan is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services and serves as House chair of the Standing Committee of the House Engrossed Bills.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Health and Human Services; Parts of the Dirigo Health Act, including the State Health Plan, the Maine Quality Forum and Advisory Council on Health Systems Development; Maine Health Data Organization; health and medical data; MaineCare, Medicaid, and Medicare Part D; children’s welfare and mental health services; childcare; public health and disease control; tobacco addiction prevention and control; sale of tobacco; prescription drugs; health care facilities and health care workforce; social and rehabilitation services; state health system planning; substance abuse; mental health; developmental and other disabilities; poverty, homelessness and public assistance; home and community-based long-term care; aging, elderly and disability issues; medical use of marijuana; maternal and infant health; and nursing facilities and residential care.
