Representative Allison Hepler

Rep. Allison Hepler is serving her third term in the Maine House of Representatives.

Hepler is a retired professor who taught history at the University of Maine at Farmington and is the author of “McCarthyism in the Suburbs: Quakers, Communists and the Children's Librarian.” Hepler has also worked as a printer, a retail store and office coordinator, a magazine production assistant and a steelworker. She is part-owner of her husband's wooden boat building and repair business in Small Point, Phippsburg.

Hepler has lived in Woolwich for nearly four decades and is serving her fourth term on the Woolwich Selectboard. She believes we can build and maintain a sustainable environment that doesn't sacrifice jobs. She’s also involved with Maine’s First Ship, the organization that built and launched a replica of a 400-year old ship “Virginia” in Bath, as well as the Woolwich Historical Society.

Rep. Hepler serves as House chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Marine Resources and is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry and the Joint Standing Committee on Inland, Fisheries and Wildlife .

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Marine Resources; commercial marine fisheries management, licensing and enforcement; marine fish species; diadromous fish, mollusks; crustaceans; seaweed; sea urchins; sea cucumbers; processing and sale of marine fish and shellfish; and aquaculture. 

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; agricultural development; agricultural fairs, products and marketing; animal control and welfare; harness racing; food policy; food safety, inspection and labeling; dairy industry; pest management and pesticides regulation; industrial hemp; state parks, historic sites, public lands and submerged lands; Maine Land Use Planning Commission; geological surveying and mapping; Maine Forest Service; timber harvesting; industrial hemp; the Land for Maine’s Future Program; and Baxter State Park.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Fisheries and Wildlife; inland fisheries and wildlife research and management; hunting; fishing; trapping; hunter safety; fish hatcheries; game wardens; guides; taxidermist licensing; ATVs; snowmobiles; watercraft registration and boater safety; and whitewater rafting.
