Representative Lori Gramlich

Rep. Lori K. Gramlich is serving her third term in the Maine House of Representatives. She is the House chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee.

Rep. Gramlich’s legislative priorities include assuring affordable and accessible behavioral health care for all, protecting children from abuse and protecting our environment from toxic chemicals.

Rep. Gramlich earned her master’s degree in social work from the University of New England and has more than 35 years of experience in nonprofit prevention-based social work, advocacy and social justice initiatives. She has worked at the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and served as communications director for Maine Senate President Beverly Daggett. She served on the Portland School Committee from 2005 to 2008, where she was the chair of the Legislative Affairs and Policy Committees and also served on the Finance Committee.

Rep. Gramlich is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Southern Maine School of Social Work. She previously served as executive director of the National Association of Social Workers, Maine Chapter.

A Maine resident for more than 35 years, Rep. Gramlich is the proud mom of an adult daughter. She lives in Old Orchard Beach with her husband, and when not engaged in her advocacy work, she enjoys writing, gardening and going to the beach.

Rep. Gramlich serves as House chair on the Joint Standing Committee on Environment and Natural Resources.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Air and water quality; natural resource protection; site location of development laws, shoreland zoning, subdivisions and growth management; management and disposal of solid, hazardous, biomedical and special wastes; hydropower and dams; waste-to-energy facilities; mining; general environmental policy, including oversight of the Department of Environmental Protection; and returnable containers.
