Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 26 MRSA §1311, as amended by PL 1997, c. 757, §9, is
further amended to read:

 
§1311. Wage and benefit record of contractor

 
The contractor and each subcontractor in charge of the
construction of a public work shall keep an accurate record
showing the names and occupation of each and all laborers,
workers and mechanics employed by them in connection with the
construction on the public works showing the hours worked, the
title of the job, the hourly rate and the actual wages paid to
each of the laborers, workers and mechanics. A copy of such a
record must be kept at the job site, must be filed on a weekly
basis with the public authority that let the contract and must
be open at all reasonable hours to the inspection of the
Bureau of Labor Standards and, the public authority that let
the contract, and its officers and agents and any aggrieved
party or any resident of this State. It is not necessary to
preserve those records for a period longer than 3 years after
the termination of the contract.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill provides that the wage and benefit record of the
contractor and each subcontractor in charge of the
construction of a public work must be filed with the public
authority that entered into the contract. It requires that
record to be open at all reasonable hours to the inspection of
any aggrieved party or resident of this State.
