| | | Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §603, sub-§5, as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, | | §2 and affected by Pt. B, §5, is amended to read: |

| | | 5. Exemption from title fees. Owners exempt from | | registration fees are also exempt from title fees. A towing | | company is exempt from title fees for an abandoned vehicle when | | the vehicle is towed by the towing company at the request of the | | State Police if the towing company declares that the vehicle is a | | total loss while claiming the vehicle pursuant to chapter 15, | | subchapter III.__As used in this subsection, "abandoned" has the | | same meaning as in section 1852. |

| | | Under this bill, if a towing company tows an abandoned motor | | vehicle at the request of the State Police and then claims the | | vehicle and declares that the vehicle is a total loss, the towing | | company is exempt from paying a title fee for the vehicle. |
