Chief Mowatt has served with the department since he took a part-time job in 1991, working his way up from part time to full time, and being promoted to sergeant in 1998 and chief in 2016. He served as a school resource officer for School Administrative District 17 for almost 10 years. While serving as a sergeant, he took a 5-year leave of absence starting in 2004 when his Army National Guard unit was deployed to Iraq. He also worked for the West Paris Fire Department for 10 years. In Memory of: (5-34) Jack Merrithew, of Searsport. Mr. Merrithew was a Vietnam War veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Seabees. He worked in the paper mill in Bucksport for many years. He was a devout Mason, had a strong appreciation for the Boy Scouts and was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for more than 15 years and also of Barney Hose, a historical firefighter group. He served the Town of Searsport as a selectman for 15 years, cochaired the town's 175th Anniversary Committee and started the Maritime Heritage Days, now in its 4th year. Mr. Merrithew will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

(5-35) Eric T. Wight, of Bethel. Mr. Wight was the last watchman on the fire tower on Old Spec Mountain. He removed the cabin from the tower in the summer of 1959. He also served in the United States Armed Forces in 1960 as a tank driver for the Maine National Guard. He worked for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as a game warden from 1963 to 1985, retiring as a sergeant, having headed the department's search and rescue team. He wrote a book, Maine Game Wardens, telling his stories and accounts of his fellow wardens and the service's history. Mr. Wight will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of over 56 years, Karen, and by his family and friends;

(5-36) Earlene "Kitty" Ahlquist Chadbourne, of Cumberland. Mrs. Chadbourne was a poet, writer, historian and artist. She wrote a poetry chapbook, The Pearl Collection, contributed articles for Scarborough at 350: Linking the Past to the Present and Saco Churches and wrote A Child's Life 90 Years Ago: Recollections of Florence and Earle Ahlquist 1923-1946, Scarborough, Maine. She volunteered many hours to charitable work, including with Stonecroft's Christian Women's Club, Maine Poets Society, Chadbourne Family Association, Maine Nordmenn - Sons of Norway Chapter, Piscataqua Pioneers, Saco Bay Rotary, of which she was a charter member and a Paul Harris Fellow, and Dyer Library. She also held posts with the Daughters of the American Revolution and her local chapter, the Elizabeth Wadsworth Chapter of Greater Portland. Mrs. Chadbourne will be long remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 30 years, Ted, her family and friends and all those whose lives she touched;
