She also served on the Animal Welfare Advisory Council in Augusta from 2013 to 2018, working on state regulations for breeders and puppy mills and state laws ensuring proper welfare for all animals, including farm animals. She was Director at Coastal Humane Society from 1998 to 2001 and a member of the Breeders Advisory and Resource Council, helping to develop rules and programs that ensure better breeding regulations for breeders and working to control puppy mills. She has had extensive service with the Brunswick Pride Committee and various Pride Parades, started SOLO, Single Older Lesbian Organization, participated with LGBTQ+ Speak Out, worked on a school committee to help students with issues pertaining LGBTQ+ and other issues and held talks regarding nursing home elder care issues of importance to the LGBTQ+ community. We extend our appreciation and best wishes;

In Memory of: (5-6) Venette King, of Fort Kent. Mrs. King had a long career in education, teaching 2nd grade at Fort Kent Elementary School for more than 20 years and also serving as a cooperating teacher for student teachers and for the University of Maine at Fort Kent, where she was an adjunct instructor. Her extensive community service was highlighted by responsible positions at the local, regional and state levels for the Business and Professional Women's Club USA, where she worked to promote and fund scholarships for young women to attend Dirigo Girls State and college scholarships for women graduates of Fort Kent Community High School. She worked with many local, state and federal government leaders to promote issues of importance to women in the workplace. She was also an active member of the Fort Kent Historical Society, the Peoples' Benevolent Hospital/Northern Maine Medical Center Hospital Guild, the Fort Kent Teachers' Association, the Fort Kent Music Boosters and the Aroostook County Retired Educators' Association. She served on the University of Maine Board of Visitors and on the board of the University of Maine at Fort Kent Senior College, and in 1996 she received the University of Maine at Fort Kent Outstanding Alumni Award for her contributions to the alumni association and the university. Mrs. King will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends and all those whose lives she touched;
