(5-5) Tom Hart, of Edgecomb, who was named the Veterans of Foreign Wars State of Maine Teacher of the Year. Mr. Hart, a former lieutenant in the United States Navy, worked at the JMG program at Belfast Area High School, where he shared his experiences in naval intelligence with his students, arranged for students to learn about the military, helped students place flags for Memorial Day and recover flags at Veterans Day, helped students prepare for careers after high school, organized blood drives, started the giving tree program and developed the Christmas for Kids program. In Memory of: (5-13) Howard Vandersea, of Brunswick. A decorated football player in high school and college, Mr. Vandersea signed as a free agent with the National Football League Chicago Bears franchise in 1963. He served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant, and while in the Army he was a member of the Fort Benning Doughboys, winners of the 1964 Armed Forces Football Championship. He went on to enjoy a lengthy career coaching football, beginning at Cheverus High School in Portland and with the Portland Sea Hawks semipro team and going on to coach at Tufts University, Brown University and Springfield College before joining Bowdoin College's staff as head football coach and serving from 1984 to 1999. There he coached the Polar Bears to seven Colby-Bates-Bowdoin Championships, while also coaching for the men's tennis, men's and women's track and softball programs. He was an active member of the National Football Foundation for nearly fifty years, was the foundation's northeast regional coordinator and was president and founder of the organization's Maine chapter, which now bears his name. He received several awards and was inducted into the Northbridge High School Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. Mr. Vandersea will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of over 54 years, Sara Jean, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

(5-14) the Honorable Rodney Latham Scribner, of Randolph. Mr. Scribner was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked in the United States Merchant Marine. He served as Maine State Treasurer from 1975 to 1976 and also as State Budget Officer, State Controller, Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Finance and Administration and Acting Commissioner of the Department of Indian Affairs. He was Staff Coordinator for the Maine Management and Cost Survey Commission, worked as an assistant legislative finance officer and worked as a staff accountant for Staples and Boyce, CPAs. He taught Governmental Finance at the University of Maine and wrote "Raising State and Local Revenues: Emerging Patterns in Revenue Systems." A lifelong Democrat, he served as a Representative in the 103rd Legislature, during which he served on the appropriations committee. He was active in state politics, working in town, city and county Democratic committees and as a campaign worker for 17 years, participated in voter registration drives for 12 years and served as Kennebec County Committee Chair and as Augusta City Committee Treasurer. He served as Campaign Director and Treasurer for Governor Curtis in 1966 and was Maine Financial Advisor for the Carter-Mondale ticket. He was a member of the Maine Society of Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, of which he was past president of the Maine chapter, American Society for Public Administration and National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers. Mr. Scribner will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

(5-15) Robert Phillip Johnson, Sr., of Lincolnville. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the United States Navy Reserve. He became a teacher and taught for 20 years at Belfast Area High School as a foreign language teacher. During his tenure, he also served as chief negotiator for the teacher's union, supporting the rights of teachers in the district. During the summer months, he worked as a foreman for Nash Blueberry Farm. He retired from Belfast Area High School in 2000 and went to work full time for the Maine Education Association as a UniServ Director. He also taught for a time at Camden Hills Regional High School. Mr. Johnson will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Betty, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;
