JOINT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MAINE’S REALTORS
WHEREAS,the Maine Association of REALTORS® has more than 6,000 members actively involved in the business of real estate and it has approximately 360 affiliate members,including lenders, appraisers, title companies, building inspectors, surveyors and insurance providers; and
WHEREAS, the not-for-profit trade association provides each member with an equal voice and representation in the real estate profession, serving members in all 16 Maine counties and in their communities; and
WHEREAS, a healthy supply of affordable, safe, secure and high-quality residential andcommercial real estate inventory statewide supports the continuing growth of Maine’s economy;and
WHEREAS, real estate transactions stimulate Maine’s economy and include not only themoney spent and reinvested in the sale price of a property but all those services and expenditures that occur in relation to a property transaction, for both a buyer and a seller; and
WHEREAS, according to national statistics, it is estimated that one job is generated forevery 2 home sales, each home sale contributes about $113,800 to the economy and the real estate industry accounts for 19% of the gross state product; and
WHEREAS, the real estate market in Maine is strong, as evidenced by the number of home sales increasing by 4.2% to 24,173 homes sold in 2021 with a value of $8,900,000,000;and
WHEREAS, real estate ownership is an investment in the future and one of the best ways to build financial security through equity accumulation, and for many in Maine their real property ownership represents their life savings; and
WHEREAS, expanding real property ownership will strengthen our State and its families and communities, enhance our economy and create jobs; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED: That We, the Members of the One Hundred and Thirtieth Legislature now assembled in the Second Regular Session, take this opportunity to recognize the MaineAssociation of REALTORS® and its members for their positive contributions to and the significant role they play in the lives of Maine citizens and their communities and that their service and dedication to this State are a tribute to those values and principles that we all hold dear; and be it further
RESOLVED: That suitable copies of this resolution, duly authenticated by the Secretary of State, be transmitted to the Maine Association of REALTORS® and Maine’s 12 local association boards and councils.

WHEREAS,for over a century, Arab Americans have been making valuable contributions to virtually every aspect of American society, including in medicine, law, business, education, technology, government, military service and culture; and
WHEREAS, people of Arab ethnicity and culture who have immigrated to America have shared their rich culture and traditions with neighbors and friends, while also setting fine examples as model citizens and public servants; and
WHEREAS, these immigrants brought with them to America their resilient family values, strong work ethic, dedication to education and diversity in faith and creed, which have added strength to our great democracy; and
WHEREAS, Arab Americans have enriched our society by sharing in the entrepreneurial American spirit that makes our nation free and prosperous; and
WHEREAS, the history of Arab Americans in the United States continues to be characterized by misconceptions, bigotry and anti-Arab hate expressed by crimes and hate speech;and
WHEREAS, the civil rights abuses, harmful stereotyping and bullying suffered by Arab Americans must be combated with education and awareness; and
WHEREAS, Arab Americans join all Americans in the desire to see a peaceful and diverse society where every individual is treated equally and feels safe; and

In Memory of: (5-32) Carmine Pecorelli, of Belfast. Mr. Pecorelli was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War and an icon among Maine veterans and the community beyond. First enlisting in the United States Navy in 1943, he earned the rank of Radarman Second Class before joining the United States Army Reserves and earning the rank of Sergeant Major. Later in life, he volunteered with the Belfast Veterans of Foreign Wars, Troop Greeters and Wreaths Across America. Mr. Pecorelli will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

(5-33) Charles F. Gove, Jr., of Winthrop. Mr. Gove was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a longtime employee of Central Maine Power, retiring as Augusta District Manager. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Community Telephone in Winthrop. He served his community volunteering many hours at the Winthrop Food Pantry, and he was an active member of the Winthrop Congregational Church and the Winthrop Rotary Club. Mr. Gove will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and community;

(5-34) Gabriel Walker, of Portland. Mr. Walker taught biology at Portland High School for three decades and was well known for his passion for science and caring for his students. He worked summers as a housepainter and furniture maker and as director of a Portland science program. He also coached Little League and was a baseball coach at Portland High School. After retiring from teaching in 1994, he became an usher for the Portland Sea Dogs, working there for 25 years and retiring as head usher in 2020. Mr. Walker will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Sally, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

(5-35) John Dominick Cancelarich, of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania and formerly of Presque Isle. Mr. Cancelarich was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked at Lederle Labs in Pearl River, New York before moving to Presque Isle in 1962 to work for Vahlsing's Maine Sugar Industries, later taking leadership roles in Potato Service, Colby Starch and Northland Frozen Foods. Involved in the Maine manufacturing and agricultural industries, as well as Maine Democratic politics, he was an associate of Maine Governors, United States Senators and members of the United States Congress. He was a very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Presque Isle, serving as Parish Council Chairman and leading the church rosary group, and later became involved with the Holy Spirit Parish of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. In Presque Isle, he led an anti-war peace group and served as a board member of Presque Isle's public library. In retirement, he consulted for the World Bank as a volunteer, supporting many developing countries with agricultural and food processing opportunities throughout the world. Mr. Cancelarich will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Johnnie Lou Cancelarich, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

(5-36) Willard Alfred Bredenberg, of Lewiston, a Doctor of Medicine who practiced as a psychiatrist, working for Tri-County Mental Health Services and the Riverview Psychiatric Center. Dr. Bredenberg was a veteran of the United States Navy. He participated in the HIV and AIDS Epidemic Collaborative Commissions and was recognized with a Doctors without Borders honor. He helped to co-found the Maine Gay Men's Chorus, and he was a member of High Street Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Auburn. Dr. Bredenberg will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;
