Ask A Law Librarian
Reference librarians will research and respond via email to requests that can be answered briefly and are of a legal, legislative, or governmental nature. We check for incoming requests throughout the day and generally respond within three working days. Maine requests are given priority. For requests coming from out-of-state we supply only Maine-related information.
If you have a lengthy or involved request please consider contacting the library at :

CLOSURES
April 6, 2020: Although COVID-19 prevents us from serving you face-to-face right now, our services are still available. Staff will respond to requests made through the library’s reference form linked on this page during normal business hours. Please note that the State House and Library are not open to visitors at this time.
While using the form linked on this page is greatly preferred and will allow us to respond as quickly as possible, the library will have limited access to voicemail for the library's main line (207-287-1600). If you decide to leave a voicemail, please leave your name and email address to which we can respond. If you do not have an email address, please leave your phone number. Our responses by phone will be delayed.
Any requests that require the use the physical resources within the library will be delayed.
