(5-7) John Scott Davis, of West Bath, on his retirement from the City of Bath after many years of public service. From October 1985 to April 2024, Mr. Davis served the city in a number of roles, including as Assistant Codes Enforcement Officer, Codes Enforcement Officer, City Fire Inspector, Local Health Officer, Building Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Zoning Administrator, Assistant Welfare Director and ADA Coordinator. He has been a member of the Maine Building Officials and Inspectors Association for over 30 years, serving the association in a number of capacities, and was named 2020 Member of the Year. He served on a task force for developing the State's first codes enforcement certification tests and taught codes enforcement certification classes for the State. He received an honorary lifetime state certification as a codes enforcement officer. He also served on the Bath Regional Vocational Center committee for the building trades. We extend our congratulations and best wishes;

In Memory of: (5-19) Joan Woodcock Nestler, of Bangor. Having a passion for public service, Mrs. Nestler served on the board of the Good Samaritan Agency, with Maine Citizens for Historic Preservation, including as Vice President, with the City of Bangor Historic Preservation Commission and with the Blaine House Commission. In addition, she was active with the Bangor Symphony, Symphony Women and Opera New England. In 1981, in recognition of her extensive volunteerism, she was presented with the Jefferson Award for Public Service. She also was a member of the Shakespeare Club and PEO Sisterhood Chapter B of Bangor. Mrs. Nestler will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends and all those whose lives she touched;

(5-20) the Honorable Joseph Edward Brennan, of Portland. Mr. Brennan was a veteran of the United States Army. He joined the law firm of Casper Tevanian in 1963. He won election to the Maine Legislature at age 29 in 1964 and was elected Cumberland County attorney in 1970. In 1972, he returned to the State Senate, where he was elected immediately to serve as Minority Leader. In 1974, he ran for Governor for the first time, losing to George Mitchell in the primary but then being elected Attorney General by the State Senate. He led negotiations between the Maine tribes and the Federal Government, which ultimately resulted in the Indian Land Claims Settlement Act of 1980. He was elected governor in 1978 and was reelected in 1984, becoming the first Democrat to win all 16 counties since the Civil War. Perhaps his most important contribution as Governor was his decision in 1980 to appoint George Mitchell to serve in the United States Senate to finish the term of Edmund Muskie. Senator Mitchell went on to become the Senate Majority Leader and negotiate a peace agreement in Northern Ireland. After his governorship, Mr. Brennan was elected to the United States Congress twice, in 1986 and 1988. He completed his public service career by serving three United States presidents as a Commissioner of the Federal Maritime Commission from 1999 until his retirement in 2013. Mr. Brennan will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 30 years, Connie LaPointe Brennan, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

(5-21) Craig Wood, of Saco. Mr. Wood had a career as a plumbing and heating salesman at F.W. Webb, North Hampton Plumbing Supply in Greenfield, Massachusetts and The Granite Group in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. An avid runner and triathlete, he completed five marathons: the Maine Marathon, the Hartford Marathon, the Vermont City Marathon, the Philadelphia Marathon and the New York City Marathon. He served his community as a member of the Saco Shoreline Commission. Mr. Wood will be long remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 40 years, Diane, his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched;

(5-22) Linda Hackett, of Portland. Mrs. Hackett was a nurse midwife long before the profession gained popularity. She became the first Certified Nurse Midwife in the State. She cared for patients at Coastal Women's Healthcare and ultimately delivered many thousands of babies at both Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital during her 35-year midwifery career. Mrs. Hackett will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends and all those whose lives she touched;

(5-23) Susan Andrea Montgomery, of Scarborough. Mrs. Montgomery had a career in information research, working for the Passaic Township Library in New Jersey and various companies. In her retirement in Maine, she served on several Piper Shores community committees in Scarborough. Mrs. Montgomery will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends and all those whose lives she touched;

(5-25) Maybelle Ann (Catruch) Travis, of Hollis. Mrs. Travis worked at Sylvania as a technician for over 30 years. She had many interests, including baking for her family and for restaurants in the local area. Mrs. Travis will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends;

(5-26) David Scott Harriman, of Lyman. Mr. Harriman had a 26-year career with the City of Biddeford, retiring as a mechanic. Mr. Harriman will be long remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends;

(5-28) R. Sharon Galgay, of Portland. Mrs. Galgay worked as a bartender in Las Cruces and in Old Mesilla, New Mexico, in retail sales at Puritan Clothing in Hyannis, Massachusetts, as a bartender at the South Royalton House in Vermont from 1984 to 1987 and at E.C. Jordan Company in Portland from 1987 to 1995. Mrs. Galgay will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends;
(SLS 1896) (5-29) Abilina Lawrence, of Portland. Mrs. Lawrence, who was born in Kauai's Makaweli sugar plantation in Hawaii, lived in Aiea, Oahu when she witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. She later moved to Maine, where she raised her family and worked for the Boy Scouts of America when it was located in North Deering. She went on to work for decades with the Portland Police Department in the Crime Analysis Records Department as a records clerk. Mrs. Lawrence will be long remembered and sadly missed by her husband of over 74 years, Roger, her family and her friends;

(5-30) Michele Ann MacLean, of Freeport. Ms. MacLean began her professional career as a real estate paralegal with the Augusta law firm of Sanborn, Moreshead, Schade and Gifford. She next joined attorney Linda Gifford at her firm, where she became an integral part of the firm's real estate practice. During this period, she first became acquainted with government affairs, working on behalf of the Maine Association of Realtors. She went on to establish her own government affairs consulting practice, known as Capitol Strategies, which she ran successfully for more than 20 years, serving clients in a number of industries, including paper and forest products, telecommunications and electric utilities, pharmaceuticals and electronic gaming. Ms. MacLean will be long remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends and all those whose lives she touched;
