§20050. Payment for treatment; financial ability of patients

Payment.
If treatment is provided by an approved treatment facility and the patient has not paid the charge for that treatment, the treatment facility is entitled to any payment received by the patient or to which the patient may be entitled because of the services rendered, and from any public or private source available to the treatment facility because of the treatment provided to the patient.

2.
Liability.
A patient in an approved public treatment facility, or the estate of the patient, or a person obligated to provide for the cost of treatment who has sufficient financial ability, is liable to the treatment facility for cost of maintenance and treatment of the patient in accordance with established rates.

3.
Finances.
The department shall adopt rules governing financial ability that take into consideration the patient's income, savings, other personal and real property and any support being furnished to any other person that the patient is required by law to support.
