§18358. Prior service; service previous to membership
1.
Employee in service when district participation begins.
Any employee who is in service on the date when participation of the local district begins and who elects to join the Participating Local District Retirement Program after that date is entitled to:
A.
Service credit for prior service for the periods of previous service certified by the participating local district as creditable prior service rendered to that district for which the participating local district makes contributions; and

B.
Service credit for all membership service for which contributions are paid into the Participating Local District Retirement Program by the member or picked up by the employer.

2.
Optional members joining the Participating Local District Retirement Program.
A person who joins the Participating Local District Retirement Program under section 18251, 18252 or 18252‑A begins to accrue membership service credit on the effective date of first contributions or pick-up contributions to the program.
