§1255. Members of the Armed Forces
1.
Privileges.
A resident who is serving on active duty in the United States Armed Forces and otherwise qualified to operate a motor vehicle:
A.
Must receive a license or nondriver identification card on application to the Secretary of State;

B.
Is exempt from the payment of a fee for a license or nondriver identification card;

C.
May operate a motor vehicle, notwithstanding the expiration date of that person's license, without obtaining a new license; and

D.
Shall, while operating a motor vehicle, carry conclusive evidence of membership in the Armed Forces.

2.
After discharge.
The privileges of this section remain in effect for a period of 180 days after discharge or release from the Armed Forces.

3.
Revocation or suspension.
This section does not permit a person whose license or right to operate is revoked or suspended or who has been refused a license to operate a motor vehicle.
