§1953. Splash guards
1.
Required.
A truck, truck tractor, trailer and semitrailer must be equipped with suitable guards that will effectively reduce the spray or splash of mud, water or slush caused by the rear wheels.

2.
Exception.
Splash guards are not required for:
A.
A truck with a registered gross vehicle weight of 6,000 pounds or less;

B.
A dump truck:
(1)
While being operated on construction or reconstruction projects in a construction area established by the Department of Transportation; and
(2)
On a public way between the project and a pit or quarry where materials are being obtained when the pit or quarry is within 7 miles of the construction area;
