Representative David Harold McCrea
  Representing: Caswell, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Hamlin, Limestone, Presque Isle (part), Stockholm and Cyr Plantation, plus the unorganized territory of Connor Township
District #148

Rep. David McCrea is currently serving his third term in the Maine House of Representatives. He is a lifelong resident of Fort Fairfield and retired after 48 years of teaching science in his hometown in June 2016.

Rep. McCrea graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1964, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1968 and his master’s degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1981.

Throughout Rep. McCrea’s teaching career, he has been a member of the Maine Education Association, the National Education Association and an active member of the Fort Fairfield Teacher’s Association.

Before his election to the Legislature in 2016, Rep. McCrea served Fort Fairfield as a town councilor for the previous 15 years and as chair for six of those years. He has been an active member of his community throughout his life, serving on many committees.

Rep. McCrea’s interests in the Legislature include education, the agricultural industry and bringing broadband internet to the more rural regions of our state.

Rep. McCrea lives with his very significant other, Fran Gustin, in Fort Fairfield. His daughter, Meaghan, is an English teacher at Bonny Eagle High School in Standish and lives in Gorham with her husband, Eric, and their son, Will.

Rep. McCrea is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs, Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture Conservation and Forestry and serves as House chair of House Bills in the Second Reading.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Education; State Board of Education; school finance, governance and administration; school budgets; school facilities; curriculum, instruction and assessment; teachers and administrators; special education and child development services; education of deaf and hard-of-hearing students; career and technical education; alternative education, school choice and home schooling; truancy and dropouts; educational services at juvenile correctional facilities; adult education; Maine Education Policy Research Institute; University of Maine System; Maine Community College System; Maine Maritime Academy; postsecondary education finance and governance; student assistance programs at Finance Authority of Maine; and cultural affairs, including Maine Arts Commission, Maine State Library, Maine State Museum and Maine Public Broadcasting Corporation.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources; agricultural fairs, products and marketing; animal control and welfare; food safety, inspection and labeling; dairy industry; pesticides regulation; nutrient management; farmland preservation; Department of Conservation; state parks, historic sites, public lands, submerged lands and coastal islands registry; Maine Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC); geological surveying and mapping; forest management, marketing, utilization, health and fire control; the Land for Maine's Future Program; and Baxter State Park.
