If approved by the
Joint Committee of Congress on the Library, the Maine Arts Commission, the
Maine State Library and the Maine Historic Preservation Commission estimate
the cost to create the new statues of Joshua Chamberlain and Margaret Chase
Smith, place them in the National Statuary Hall and transport and place the
existing statues of Hannibal Hamlin and William King within public view or on
the grounds of the State House to be approximately $800,000. This bill includes Other Special Revenue
Funds base allocations of $500 per year beginning in fiscal year 2025-26 to a
newly created National Statuary Hall - Statue Replacement program account
within the Maine State Museum to authorize the expenditure of any monies
received from private or public sources to fund the cost of the statue
replacement. |
