The bill amends
the sentencing provisions to provide that, for a person convicted of any
crime on or after January 1, 2026, the court may not set a term of
imprisonment for life. It is unclear
how many individuals may be confined in a correctional facility for a lesser
term than may occur without this bill. The current average cost of
incarcerating one individual for a single year is $55,203. No savings have
been identified at this time. |
