Preliminary Fiscal Impact Statement
Redistribution of state funding - school construction projects
Fiscal Detail and Notes
This legislation changes the methodology in which the State distributes funding for school construction projects from fully funding  the cost of an approved project to requiring local school administrative units (SAUs) to contribute to the total cost of funding the project beginning July 1, 2026.  Although this legislation will not change the amount of funding allocated by the State for school construction projects, it will redistribute those funds with those SAUs that would have ranked high enough to receive full funding for their approved project receiving less state funding and having to contribute local funds for the remaining portion and those SAU's that would not have ranked high enough to receive full funding now becoming eligible to receive some state funding towards their approved project.  The impact to individual school administrative units can not be estimated at this time.
Additional costs to the State Board of Education associated with the rulemaking process can be absorbed within existing budgeted resources.
