This bill may
decrease the number of civil suits filed in the court system. The Judicial
Branch may realize some minor reduction of workload and administrative costs
associated with the minimal number of cases that will no longer be filed.
Collection of filing fees will decrease General Fund revenue by minor
amounts. |

The additional
costs to the Legislature are expected to be minor if the request of the joint
standing committee occurs during a legislative session. If the request occurs
when the Legislature is not in session, the additional costs to the
Legislature would be approximately $18,700 per day for the special session
per diem plus approximately $25,968 for travel-related allowances for the
Legislature to return for a single day. |

The bill includes
an Other Special Revenue Funds allocation of $302,708 in fiscal year 2026-27
to the Department of the Attorney General
for one full-time equivalent Assistant Attorney General position, one
full-time equivalent Research Assistant position and related costs to seek
legislative approval before filing lawsuits.
Other Special Revenue Funds revenue to the Department of the Attorney
General would increase by $302,708 in fiscal year 2026-27 for reimbursement
of legal services from state agencies. |

Any additional
costs to the Department of Secretary of State associated with this
legislation are expected to be minor and can be absorbed within existing
budgeted resources. |
