Correctional and Judicial Impact Statements
The bill allows a court to impose a sentence that includes commitment beyond 21 years of age for a juvenile adjudicated of a Class A crime.  This process could increase the adult corrections system population.  It is unclear how many additional individuals could be committed to an adult corrections facility who otherwise would not have been. The current average cost of incarcerating one individual for a single year is $55,203.
Fiscal Detail and Notes
The Department of Corrections would require General Fund appropriations of $257,387 in fiscal year 2025-26 and $249,895 in fiscal year 2026-27 for one Resource Coordinator position and related costs to process and respond to motions for new juvenile court dispositions and additional Office of the Attorney General costs.
