This bill includes
ongoing General Fund appropriations of $2,500,000 per year beginning in
fiscal year 2025-26 to a newly established International Medical Graduates
Sponsorship Program within the Finance Authority of Maine to provide funding
for 10 slots per year at one or more sponsoring institutions for the
employment and training of an internationally trained physician issued a
temporary educational license to practice medicine in the State. This fiscal
note assumes 10 slots are funded each year at a cost of $250,000 per slot per
year. The Finance Authority of Maine has indicated that it will be able to
administer the program within the provisions included in the bill. |

Additional costs
to the Board of Licensure in Medicine, affiliated with the Department of
Professional and Financial Regulation, to implement the requirements of this
legislation can be absorbed within existing budgeted resources. |
