Fiscal Detail and Notes
The Education in the Unorganized Territory program within the Department of Education will require ongoing General Fund appropriations of $64,400 per year beginning in fiscal year 2024-25 for the cost to reimburse parents for the transportation of elementary school children residing in the unorganized territory.  This estimate, provided by the Department of Education, assumes that 8 students currently need parents to transport them approximately 100 miles each day (round trip) for 175 school days at a mileage reimbursement rate of $0.46 per mile.  As General Fund expenditures from this program are fully reimbursed by the Unorganized Territory Education and Services Fund, there will be a corresponding increase in the tax collected through the Unorganized Territory Education and Services Tax, which is levied on all nonexempt real and personal property located in the Unorganized Territory Tax District, beginning in fiscal year 2024-25.  The additional tax revenue will reimburse the General Fund for expenditures incurred from this bill.
