This bill
includes General Fund appropriations totaling $1,901,778 per year beginning
in fiscal year 2023-24 to the General Purpose Aid for Local Schools program
within the Department of Education to support the Maine School of Science and
Mathematics (MSSM). |

Funding for the
MSSM is included in the targeted education funds component of the total cost
of education from kindergarten to grade 12 pursuant to Title 20-A, section
15689-A, subsection 14. If this bill
is enacted, the amount appropriated here for fiscal year 2023-24 will be
added to the amount already designated for the MSSM in Public Law 2023,
chapter 17, Part C. |

Additional costs
to the MSSM to annually submit a required sustainability report can be
absorbed within existing budgeted resources. |
