Current biennium cost increase - Maine State Housing Authority
Fiscal Detail and Notes
This bill requires the Maine State Housing Authority (MSHA) to develop and administer, through a contract with an appropriate vendor, a home share pilot program to assist older persons in reducing living expenses primarily by matching older persons who own homes with spare rooms to adults in need of affordable housing.  No funding is included in the bill to support the cost of the pilot program.  MSHA has indicated that it will provide up to $200,000 towards the initial start-up costs of the program over the 2024-2025 biennium including identifying appropriate vendors, issuing a request for proposals for a vendor to provide a digital-based matching service and awarding a contract for the services.  General Fund appropriations may be required if the pilot program is to extend beyond the 2024-2025 biennium or if costs exceed the $200,000 provided by MSHA.
