Increasing the
minimum state share of a school administrative unit's (SAU's) special
education costs under the essential programs and services funding model from
50% to 55% will increase the total cost of public education from kindergarten
to grade 12 and the State's share of that cost beginning in fiscal year
2024-25. Although the cost for fiscal
year 2024-25 can not be determined at this time, the Department of Education
has estimated that had this provision been in effect in fiscal year 2023-24
the total cost of K-12 public education would have increased by $2,057,055,
with the State's share being 55%, or $1,131,380 and the local share being
45%, or $925,675. |
