This bill
includes a one-time General Fund appropriation of $150,000 in fiscal year
2023-24 to the University of Maine System (UMS) to contract with vendors for
the data and analysis required to conduct a study to determine the
feasibility of establishing a public allopathic medical school in Penobscot
County. The bill allows the UMS to
apply for and receive funding from private and public sources and may reduce
the amount of funding necessary to be provided through General Fund
appropriations. No information as to
the amount of outside funding available for this purpose is known at this
time. |
|
Additional costs
to the State Board of Education, the Maine Center for Workforce Research and
Information and the Department of Health and Human Services to participate in
the study can be absorbed within existing budgeted resources. |
