Eliminating the
requirement that notices of assessment to certain insurance carriers licensed
to write workers' compensation insurance in Maine as well as certain
self-insured employers authorized to make workers' compensation payments
directly to employees be sent by certified mail may result in savings to the
Safety Education and Training Assessment Fund within the Department of Labor
beginning in fiscal year 2023-24 if the alternative method of notifying the
affected insurance carriers and self-insured employers is less expensive than
the cost of sending the notification through certified mail. Any potential
savings is expected to be minor. |
