The bill elevates
from a Class D to a Class C the crime of patronizing prostitution of a person
who has not attained 18 years of age. Sentences for Class C crimes are served
in a state correctional facility while sentences for Class D crimes are
served in a county jail, increasing state correctional costs. It is unclear
how many individuals will now be convicted of a Class C crime who otherwise
would not have been. The current average cost of incarcerating an individual
for a single year is $55,203. The Department of Corrections has not indicated
the need for additional funding at this time and no funding is included in
the bill. |
