This bill
requires manufacturers of certain electronic devices, individually or
collectively, design and implement a statewide manufacturer electronic waste
program to provide for the collection, transportation, consolidation and
recycling of collected electronic waste devices in the state. The Department of Environmental Protection
will be required to review manufacturers plans and will be responsible for
enforcement of program requirements.
The DEP has indicated that because of the anticipated up front
activites required to transition into the program, it will need additional
temporary staff. The bill inlcudes appropriations
of $33,998 in fiscal year 2021-22 and $13,273 in fiscal year 2022-23 for one
half-time Environmental Specialist III position and associated costs. The DEP anticipates that future staffing
and addtional costs will be funded by Other Special Revenue Funds revenue
generated by the program. |
