Fiscal Detail and Notes
The bill provides for ranked-choice voting for general elections for presidential electors if a law establishing a presidential primary election is enacted in Maine.  Ranked-choice voting is currently in place for state primary elections and general elections for federal Congressional candidates.  Before enactment of LD 1626, requiring ranked-choice voting for general elections for presidential electors in this bill was not expected to add significant costs for the Secretary of State. As LD 1626 has recently been enacted, the Secretarty of State has indicated the need for additional appropriations of approximately $100,000.
