Amend the resolve in section 1 in the 7th line (page 1, line 7 in L.D.) by inserting after the following: "economic" the following: ', disability-related, gender'

Amend the resolve by adding after section 1 the following:

Sec. 2. Report. Resolved: That the Department of Education, in developing a model school disciplinary policy under section 1, shall review existing law regarding disciplinary policies, including but not limited to policies on bullying and cyberbullying, and report back to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs on any recommended legislation no later than January 15, 2020. The Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs may report out a bill to the Second Regular Session of the 129th Legislature to implement the recommendations on school disciplinary policies.’

Amend the resolve by relettering or renumbering any nonconsecutive Part letter or section number to read consecutively.

SUMMARY

This amendment, which is the majority report of the committee, adds a requirement that the Department of Education's model school disciplinary policy promote interventions designed to close disability-related and gender gaps and requires the department, while developing the model school disciplinary policy, to review existing law regarding disciplinary policies and report back to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs on any recommended legislation on disciplinary policies no later than January 15, 2020. The committee may report out a bill to the Second Regular Session of the 129th Legislature to implement the recommendations on school disciplinary policies.
