An Act To Promote Youth Employment
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 26 MRSA §664, sub-§1-A is enacted to read:
1-A. Youth wage. Notwithstanding subsection 1, an employer may pay a person who is:
A. Sixteen or 17 years of age $1.00 per hour less than the minimum hourly wage established in subsection 1;
B. Fifteen years of age $2.00 per hour less than the minimum hourly wage established in subsection 1; and
C. Fourteen years of age or under $3.00 per hour less than the minimum hourly wage established in subsection 1.
SUMMARY
This bill establishes a minimum hourly wage for persons who are 16 or 17 years of age that is $1.00 per hour less than the regular minimum hourly wage, a minimum hourly wage for persons who are 15 years of age that is $2.00 per hour less than the regular minimum hourly wage and a minimum hourly wage for persons who are 14 years of age and under that is $3.00 per hour less than the regular minimum hourly wage.
