An Act To Direct the Judicial Branch To Establish a Veterans Treatment Court
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 4 MRSA §433, sub-§2, as enacted by PL 2011, c. 500, §1, is amended to read:
2. Chief Justice to establish. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court may shall establish a veterans treatment courts court for veterans and members of the United States Armed Forces and may establish additional veterans treatment courts for veterans and members of the United States Armed Forces. The Supreme Judicial Court may adopt administrative orders and court rules of practice and procedure as necessary.

Current law allows the Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court to establish veterans treatment courts. This bill instead requires the Chief Justice to establish a veterans treatment court and allows the Chief Justice to establish additional such courts.
