An Act To Require the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife To Implement a Firearm Safety and Firearm Violence Prevention Program
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §10103, sub-§13 is enacted to read:
13. Firearm safety and firearm violence prevention program. Beginning July 1, 2020 and annually thereafter, the commissioner shall develop and implement a program focused on increasing the awareness and education of the public on matters relating to firearm safety and the prevention of firearm violence. In developing and implementing the program, the commissioner may consult with public and private entities with expertise in firearm safety and the prevention of firearm violence, including, but not limited to, the Department of Public Safety. The program may include, but is not limited to, print, radio, television and Internet advertising, the distribution of written materials and the offering or facilitation of public events.
