This bill
includes General Fund appropriations totaling $90,043 in fiscal year 2018-19
for the costs associated with implementing certain recommendations of the
Computer Science Education Task Force and updating the statewide strategic
plan for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Of that amount, $26,000 in one-time funding
is appropriated for the costs to 1) create a statewide plan for computer
science, including the cost of consulting with experts in the computer
science education field; and 2) update the strategic plan for STEM. The balance of $64,043 is appropriated on
an ongoing basis for one half-time Regional Education Representative position
and associated All Other costs to serve as the computer science liaison to
support the implementation of computer science education across the State and
the statewide strategic plan for STEM.
According to the Department of Education, there is not a person
currently employed within the department with the level of knowledge needed
to support the implementation of computer science education in the State. |
