Amend the bill by striking out the title and substituting the following:

‘An Act To Require Motorists To Yield to Transit Buses’

Amend the bill by striking out everything after the enacting clause and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2053, sub-§9  is enacted to read:

9 Yield to transit buses.   An operator of a vehicle must yield the right-of-way to a transit bus traveling in the same direction if the transit bus has signaled and is reentering the traffic flow from a bus stop or shoulder of the roadway. This subsection does not relieve the operator of a transit bus from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons using the roadway. For purposes of this subsection, "transit bus" means a bus operated by a public mass transit operator and does not include a school bus.

summary

This amendment strikes and replaces the bill and changes the title. The amendment requires an operator of a vehicle to yield the right-of-way to a transit bus traveling in the same direction if the transit bus has signaled and is reentering the traffic flow from a bus stop or shoulder of the roadway.
