‘Resolve, To Direct the Development of After-school Programs’

Amend the bill by striking out everything after the title and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. After-school programs; working group. Resolved: That the Department of Education shall work with the Maine Afterschool Network to create a working group consisting of members of the Maine Afterschool Network and representatives of interested and appropriate business entities to design and develop after-school programs, including but not limited to industrial arts and family and consumer sciences after-school programs, that schools can adopt to meet the interests and needs of students; and be it further

Sec. 2. Report. Resolved: That the Department of Education by January 15, 2018 shall report to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs on the progress of the working group created pursuant to section 1 along with any recommendations to promote success of the effort to design and develop after-school programs.’

SUMMARY

This amendment replaces the bill with a resolve. This amendment, which is the minority report of the committee, directs the Department of Education to work with the Maine Afterschool Network to create a working group consisting of members of the Maine Afterschool Network and representatives of interested business entities to design and develop after-school programs that schools can adopt to meet the interests and needs of students. The department is directed to report by January 15, 2018 to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs on the progress of the working group along with any recommendations to promote the success of the effort to design and develop after-school programs.
