An Act To Provide Emergency Repair Funding for the Restoration of the Official State Vessel, the Schooner Bowdoin
Emergency preamble. Whereas, acts and resolves of the Legislature do not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as emergencies; and
Whereas, the schooner Bowdoin, the official state vessel of Maine, acquired by the Maine Maritime Academy in 1988 and used for its Vessel Operations and Technology program, is showing deterioration below its waterline and is in need of emergency funding to make necessary repairs and do restorative work; and
Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, therefore,
Sec. 1. Appropriations and allocations. The following appropriations and allocations are made.
MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY
Initiative: Provides funds to the Maine Maritime Academy for the restoration of the schooner Bowdoin.

Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this legislation takes effect when approved.
SUMMARY
This bill provides funds to the Maine Maritime Academy in order to make repairs and do restorative work on the schooner Bowdoin, the official state vessel, which is used by the Maine Maritime Academy for its Vessel Operations and Technology program.
