An Act To Allow Minors To Work in a Family Business without Obtaining a Work Permit

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 26 MRSA §775, sub-§7  is enacted to read:

7 Exception for minor employed in family's business.   This section does not apply to any minor under 16 years of age employed in a business solely owned by the minor's parents.

This bill allows children who are authorized to work for their parents under state and federal law to do so without filing for or obtaining a work permit with or from the Department of Labor.
