An Act To Exempt Public Safety Buildings from Historic Preservation Restrictions
Sec. 1. 27 MRSA §512 is enacted to read:
§ 512. Exemption for public safety buildings
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a public safety building is exempt from restrictions regarding restoration and preservation standards imposed by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission or by a historical society in the State. As used in this section, "public safety building" means a state, county or municipal building with the primary function of housing police, fire or emergency medical services.
SUMMARY
This bill exempts a public safety building, which is defined as a state, county or municipal building with the primary function of housing police, fire or emergency medical services, from restrictions imposed by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission or by a historical society in the State.
