Amend the bill in section 1 by striking out all of §9952 (page 1, lines 11 to 14 in L.D.) and inserting the following:

§ 9952 Traffic safety education required

1 Age-appropriate traffic safety education.   A school administrative unit shall provide age-appropriate traffic safety education to students in accordance with this chapter. The age-appropriate traffic safety education must:
A Meet the minimum requirements specified in section 9953;
B Be at least one hour in length; and
C Be provided annually to at least 4 different grade levels from kindergarten to grade 12.

Amend the bill by inserting after section 1 the following:

Sec. 2. Appropriations and allocations. The following appropriations and allocations are made.

Initiative: Provides one-time funds for 90% of the cost to local school administrative units to implement and annually provide age-appropriate traffic safety education for at least 4 different grade levels between kindergarten and grade 12.

SUMMARY

This amendment, which is the majority report of the committee, modifies the requirements in the bill for age-appropriate traffic safety education in school administrative units. The amendment provides that the traffic safety education must be provided annually to at least 4 different grade levels from kindergarten to grade 12. The amendment retains the requirements of the bill that the education be at least one hour in length and meet certain minimum requirements. This amendment also provides funding for 90% of the cost to school administrative units to implement the traffic safety education curriculum.
