An Act To Add .17 Caliber Hornady Magnum Rimfire Rifle Cartridges to the Cartridges Acceptable for Deer Hunting
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §11454, sub-§1, as amended by PL 2005, c. 477, §12, is further amended to read:
1. Prohibition. A person may not hunt deer with any firearms using a .17 or .22 caliber rimfire cartridge , except that the use of the .22 caliber rimfire magnum cartridge is not prohibited.
Sec. 2. 12 MRSA §11454, sub-§3 is enacted to read:
3. Exceptions. Subsection 1 does not apply to the use of a .17 caliber Hornady magnum rimfire rifle cartridge or a .22 caliber rimfire magnum cartridge.

This bill excepts the .17 caliber Hornady magnum rimfire rifle cartridge, commonly known as the .17 HMR, from the prohibition on .17 caliber rimfire cartridges for deer hunting.
