An Act To Ensure Timely Expenditure of Federal Funds in the Department of Health and Human Services
Sec. 1. 22-A MRSA §211, as enacted by PL 2007, c. 539, Pt. N, §50, is amended to read:
§ 211. Federal funds and commodities
The commissioner, with the consent and approval of the Governor, is authorized and empowered to accept any allotments of federal funds and commodities, to manage and dispose of the same in whatever manner required by federal law and to put into effect the United States Social Security Act and any amendments of that act and of other federal acts relating to public welfare. The department shall expend federal funds within one year of receiving those funds except when the time frame for expenditure is specified otherwise by federal law or by the federal agency or as a requirement of the award.
SUMMARY
This bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services to spend federal funds within one year of receiving those funds except when the time frame for expenditure is specified otherwise by the Federal Government.
